Execute Saddam: Bloodthirsty Republicans are Waiting.
I think Iraqi's ought to Execute Saddam Hussein. Really what the hell are they waiting for? Why are the Iraqi’s having this show trial? What’s the point? In the modern Republican American Post 9/11 world, trials are passe. President Bush can decide to designate someone without evidence as an enemy combatant and hold them indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay, so why are the Iraqi’s so concerned with Saddam’s due process rights? Bush can order surveillance of American Citizens without a warrant and violate the law, so why does Saddam even get to have a lawyer? What’s the point?
When President Bush and his lackeys can leak a CIA agent’s name in violation of the law and not be held accountable, why does Saddam get his day in court? Is this why we invaded Iraq to bring them Democracy and the Rule of Law? Saddam gets to take advantage of Due Process and yet a farmer picked up on the battlefield in Afghanistan and held for the last three years at Gitmo don’t even get to talk to a lawyer? What’s the point?
When the Bush administration is allowed to Torture people who have never been convicted of a crime, we have abandoned all our principles, so why should the Iraqi’s even bother to emulate them?
As this Administration has pointed out again and again, Saddam was the worst of the worst. He supported Terrorism and he hid non-existent Weapons of Mass Destruction. He gassed his own people for Christ’s sake! (Although Ronald Reagan didn’t seem to mind then and continued to sell the gas to him and Donald Rumsfeld even shook his hand afterwards, but I digress.)
So why are the Iraqi’s so determined to prove that the Rule of Law now applies instead of just simple Vengeance? America, the Beacon of Liberty and the Rule of Law has abandoned the principle, so why don’t the Iraqi’s just appoint (all you need is 5 judges) a President and pass a War Powers Act and allow this Unitary Executive to act as Judge, Jury and Executioner? Saddam had that kind of authority as President of Iraq and according to the modern Republicans Bush has that authority right here in the good ole U.S. of A.
So, my dear Iraqi friends, just Execute Saddam already, apparently, evidence and trials and due process have fallen out of favor.
